Homemade Spaghetti and Meat Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb bulk Italian Sausage
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1-1/2 cups onion, chopped
- 1 12 oz can tomato paste
- 3 28 oz cans Italian-style crushed tomatoes in puree
- 2 cups water
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 bay leaves
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 4 tsp dried basil
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 4 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 16 oz pkg spaghetti noodles
Instructions
- In a large pot, stir and cook the Italian sausage, ground beef and onions until the meat is brown; drain fat.
- Add remaining ingredients, EXCEPT the spaghetti noodles.
- Bring sauce to a boil; reduce heat. Partly cover, and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. (If desired, simmer in a crockpot instead of a pot on the stovetop.)
- Allow sauce to cool completely. Put in zip top freezer bags or freezer containers, label and freeze. Can be separated for different meals.
- To Prepare: Thaw 4 cups of sauce and heat in a medium saucepan until hot.
- At the same time, cook the spaghetti noodles according to package directions, drain and pour sauce over them.
